– This is our Devold Test Lab

Feedback that shapes the future.

When they return to Devold, our ambassadors bring insights that help us improve.

"I’m constantly giving feedback – I share everything I notice with the team at Devold," says Jørgine.

Ronny Valseth, senior product developer at Devold, says the feedback from ambassadors directly impacts what we make.

"We take their input and tweak the products accordingly. It’s often about fit and function," he says.

At Devold, product development isn’t just about data – it’s about real people testing gear in real conditions. That’s how we make sure we deliver quality you can count on.

What happens when clothing designed for the Norwegian outdoors is tested in minus 47 degrees during Femundløpet, or in scorching 122°F heat in Death Valley? Lab experiments might give us some clues, but at Devold, we believe the real test happens out there. In the wild. In the extreme.

That’s why our Devold Test Labs aren’t traditional labs– they’re places like the Badwater Ultramarathon, Femundløpet, and the North Pole. Out there, our ambassadors play a crucial role. Their feedback is invaluable in helping us develop better gear.

From the heat of the desert to the cold of the Arctic

Among Devold’s ambassadors are ultrarunner Simen Holvik and fitness influencer and dog musher Jørgine "Funkygine" Vasstrand. They compete in extreme temperatures, on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Simen has run the Badwater Ultramarathon in temperatures over 122°F in the California desert, while Jørgine has completed Femundløpet several times, with temperatures dipping below -40°F. What do they have in common? Both wore merino wool from Devold.

"When I race Femundløpet, I wear Devold from underwear to wool sweater. That year it hit minus 47, and more than half the participants had to quit – having the right wool clothing was crucial," says Jørgine.

"I wore the best of the best – wool underwear and bra, mesh base layer, and Expedition on top. Devold products truly passed the test. I felt great throughout the race, with zero signs of frostbite despite the brutal cold," she adds.

Simen, on the other hand, faced the exact opposite: blistering sun and extreme heat. It may sound strange, but he wore the same material as Jørgine did in the Arctic.

"First and foremost, merino wool offers natural UV protection, which is essential when the sun is beating down on you in 122 degrees," explains Simen.

Throughout the race, his support crew poured water over him constantly. The natural properties of the wool kept him from feeling sticky or overheated.

"The merino wool helped me feel less clammy. That made it the perfect choice for me," he says.
